2016 Conference

The 2016 BHDMA meeting will be held Oct 3rd – 5th in the Surbeck Center at the SD School of Mines & Technology. The Center provides several rooms for sessions and workshops. We will have access to one and possibly two computer labs on campus. The Board is leaning towards the 3rd/4th  training and 4th/5th for conference sessions. Things are very fluid at this time. The conference sessions will continue to be free of charge. There may be a fee(s) associated with training. Board members are contacting trainers and training organizations and also area hotels about conference discounts. We are looking at an evening mixer and dinner for the 4th.  We want this to be a worthwhile conference for everyone. The Board welcomes your suggestions and insights. Please respond to the Board listserv link below.

Thanks for your time,

Roger A. Brees
BHDMA Board President

The Black Hills Digital Mapping Association originated in the early 1990's because of a need for the development of digital data in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Geographic Information System base data layers were desired, and coordination and sharing of funds between local counties, the state, the US Forest Service, and the USGS enabled the creation of these digital products. The group continues to meet on an annual basis because there is a strong desire among members to learn about new technologies, learn how GIS projects are being implemented in this region, receive training, and learn about data sharing opportunities.

The organization registered with the State of South Dakota as a non-profit corporation in 2005. The membership base includes representatives from all levels of government (Federal, State, County, and City) and the private sector, and includes over 100 members.
