This study will determine the impact of water quality changes in the Big Sioux River on public water supply wellfields in the Big Sioux aquifer.

Maps are being produced to show the surface geology, bedrock geology, aquifers, and other geologic resources for the counties in eastern South Dakota. Each project includes a technical report describing the geology and ground water resources of the county.

Improved aquifer boundaries for shallow and buried aquifers are being delineated in the state to enhance aquifer management and protection.

Geologic maps are being produced to allow sound development practices and wise land management decisions to be made.

Geologic maps are the foundation for many types of natural resources-related maps and have a wide range of uses. Each map covers a large area and can be used for regional and statewide planning.

In order to meet the demands for information on water quality by regulatory agencies and those whom they regulate, South Dakota is conducting a major, long-term, proactive monitoring effort.

Work is in progress to create, compile, and disseminate information having the potential to aid economic development in South Dakota related to the exploration and development of oil and gas resources.

A critical mineral is non-fuel mineral or mineral material essential to the economic and national security of the United States. Several activities across the state are providing a reconnaissance survey of the state's potential for critical mineral deposits.
