Sully County Study

Project Description

The Sully County Study will provide an assessment of the geology and water resources of the surface and subsurface in the county. Test hole drilling and observation well installation is currently underway. Field mapping and data compilation remain to be completed, at which time the report writing phase will begin.

The base map image below is a 30-meter DEM showing the surface terrain and the location of glacial outwash and alluvial aquifers.

The map below shows ArcGIS generated contours based on test hole data from surface outcrop elevations and borings that have been drilled to depths of the Pierre Shale. Additional test holes are proposed to verify the depth to the bedrock surface. Test holes and potential monitoring wells are proposed to define and verify the thickness and lateral extent of the surficial aquifers.
